Increasing mother's milk supply

I had a friend with chronic low milk supply. She strictly breastfed, but her milk supply was low enough that she had to start supplementing with formula. Everything was fine with her latch and her breastfeeding schedule. The only problem was low milk supply.

She was told to increase her breastfeeding times by other well meaning mothers, but she was really breastfeeding as often as she could.

Pulling it altogether - Being a single parent, working from home, and homeschooling

Ever had one of these days?

I recently got a comment on one of my other blogs from a woman that was amazed that a single woman with two kids could work at home and still homeschool.

It can be done. I'm sure I'm not the only one:-) In fact, it really works for our household.

What helps with our homeschooling is the online homeschooling program we use. With my son being taught online, it does give me some free time to do other things like household chores, etc. The curriculum is very self-sufficient, I just make sure I'm on standby if needed.

He knows how to access the website and use his own personal login. The curriculum points out the next lessons he needs to do. His first grade lessons contain fun characters to teach him his lessons. It's very interactive and helps with keyboarding skills. All you need is a computer, speakers, and internet access to homeschool online. It includes free worksheets, so you would need a printer if you wanted to print them out. They are really good to use along with your offline lessons.

We have been homeschooling with this company since August 2007, and I will say they have some outstanding lessons. For first grade language arts, they have a very in-depth phonics program. My son has learned a ton of sounds. As a direct result of the phonics lessons, he can sound out many new words.

The math lessons are really great too. They cover just about everything a first grade child needs to know. We just finished learning about fact families. At 28, I had no clue what a fact family was lol. Even I learned something. The worksheets really help out as you move into harder math lessons. I usually wait a day or so, then include the worksheet in our lessons. It helps to reinforce what he has already learned. It's also a great way to check and make sure your child understands the math concept.

We pay just $19.95 per month for his first grade homeschool online. That is very affordable, even for a work at home mom like me.

We homeschool offline as well and work on handwriting, flash cards, etc. I usually do these of an afternoon. While we are working on these lessons, my youngest usually colors or looks at books.

Being a single, work at home mom that homeschools is not as hard as some would think. It really is all about time management. We homeschool during the day. Most of my work is done at night, after my kids are asleep. I'm a night owl anyhow, so it all just falls into place.

My oldest son really prefers to homeschool. He's doing very well with it. The good thing about his online homeschooling is that there is no pressure with it. He learns at his own pace. You don't have a set schedule through the curriculum, you just follow your own personal homeschooling schedule.

The online curriculum is not just limited to first grade. It is available for children from pre-k to eighth grade. When you use it, you can be assured by the fact that it was created by experts and meets national standards. Your child will learn in a healthy and happy way. If you are looking for a way to really add to your homeschooling program, try them out. It's been a great addition to our household.
