I recently got a comment on one of my other blogs from a woman that was amazed that a single woman with two kids could work at home and still homeschool.
It can be done. I'm sure I'm not the only one:-) In fact, it really works for our household.
What helps with our homeschooling is the online homeschooling program we use. With my son being taught online, it does give me some free time to do other things like household chores, etc. The curriculum is very self-sufficient, I just make sure I'm on standby if needed.
He knows how to access the website and use his own personal login. The curriculum points out the next lessons he needs to do. His first grade lessons contain fun characters to teach him his lessons. It's very interactive and helps with keyboarding skills. All you need is a computer, speakers, and internet access to homeschool online. It includes free worksheets, so you would need a printer if you wanted to print them out. They are really good to use along with your offline lessons.
We have been homeschooling with this company since August 2007, and I will say they have some outstanding lessons. For first grade language arts, they have a very in-depth phonics program. My son has learned a ton of sounds. As a direct result of the phonics lessons, he can sound out many new words.
The math lessons are really great too. They cover just about everything a first grade child needs to know. We just finished learning about fact families.
